FAQ
St. Albert Ringette Association members can ask questions to the board anytime about the game, association, rules, games or anything else that comes to mind.
We have compiled these question below to provide feedback for other families and players who have similar questions or concerns.

Active Start / New Players
1. My daughter just attended the Come Try Ringette session in St. Albert. I would like to enrol her in Active Start 1 or Active Start 2. I would like to know the days and time commitments for each of these before registering.
The ice times are decided upon in September and are posted to the website as soon as they are finalized. You can find all information related to Active Start on the Active Start section of the website.

2. My daughter is 4 years old and does not yet know how to skate. On your website it states her birth year of 2012 is registration eligible but when I read through your site it states that ringette is for players 5 years of age and up. Can you verify please? And also if she indeed is age eligible but because she can't skate, would that prevent her from getting into the program?
St. Albert Ringette Association runs a program for first time ringette players called Active Start and your daughter's birth year signifies that she does fit the age restrictions for the program. Previous skating skills would help her maneuver the ice, although they are not mandatory.
3. My child is 6 and wants to start ringette. Do you have a beginner program?
We have an Active Start program and a U10 Program for beginners. You can find details about these programs under the 'team' tab as well as the ‘Game' tab.
I would also encourage you to look at the Parents Handbook as it is a good resource to parents new to the game. which can be found under the “game” tab and parents FAQ section.
If she is fairly confident with her skating skills she may be able to participate in our entry level U10 teams (we have 3 levels in U10.) The difference with the U10 division is that the teams play games.
4. My daughter is 8 and is not an experienced skater. What level should she register in and how can she get prepared for the season?
We will be getting the information about the process out to our membership for this upcoming season by the middle of September. In U10, we do hold “evaluations” which consist of 3 components: conditioning, UAA, and scrimmage.
The evaluations help us sort the players based on their skill and athleticism so we have teams that are evenly matched. This process should not be seen as a test of the players skill or ability. The UAA is a mandatory process that is required by Ringette Alberta but the other components allow the girls some time to get used to their skates as well as play a few games prior to the teams being formed. This also helps them prepare for participation in our main association fundraising tournament, The Turkey Ring.
5. My daughter has taken skating lessons last season but has never played ringette before. She is 7 years old and wants to try ringette this season. What are her options to learn and play this season?
The St. Albert Ringette Association hosts a FREE event called Come Try Ringette. All that is needed is skates, gloves and a helmet. The girls are on the ice with qualified hosts learning about the sport and trying out their legs on skates.

6. Can I sign up my son for Active Start?
Yes, ringette is a co-ed sport. Many people think ringette is a girls sport only, but there are plenty of male players at all levels of play across the country.
Board Members and the Association
1. Who do we give our Criminal Record Check to?
Your CRC must be uploaded to your RAMP account.
2. How do you submit a photo to St. Albert Ringette to feature on the website?
Photos can be submitted to the webmaster at webmaster@stalbertringette.com. Please include a short write up to go with the photo in the post.
Photos and information related to your team can also be updated by the team manager to the St. Albert Ringette Website to be added to your team homepage.
Ringette Equipment
1. I need a new ringette goalie helmet and I'm having trouble finding one. Do you know anywhere in the city that sells them?
Otny is the only company in Canada that still manufactures goalie helmets. They can be purchased from the Ringette Store in Calgary or United Cycle in Edmonton (United Cycle will special order as they do not carry stock).

2. Does St Albert Ringette sell off the old pants?
We do sell off old sets of our game pants. Please contact our equipment coordinator for additional information at equipment@stalbertringette.com
3. Is there goalie equipment available to borrow or rent through the association?
We do supply players with goalie equipment throughout the season. There is a deposit required but no additional cost for use of the equipment.
Evaluations
1. How do I know which evaluation session to go to?
The list of players that are assigned to each of the evaluation sessions will be posted as a news article on the respective division page.
2. I looked at the excel file for the U10 Evaluations, there are three times listed for each day but I have no idea which times my daughter is supposed to go to?
The registered players will be identified in alphabetical order for the first several skates.
This information can be found under the team tab and the U10 division on the website. Please continue to look at the team tab to receive updated information as the evaluations progress.
3. I see the schedule for evaluations but no player breakdown is listed under the teams/divisions. Where can I access this?
We often have players registering at the last minute so usually we have the information posted approximately one week prior to the skates (but it can be posted earlier).
As our evaluation dates are staggered, the posting of this information will depend on the evaluation start date for your daughters division.
The evaluation components include a conditioning skate, the UAA assessment (if required) and then the scrimmage skates. The players will be divided for the conditioning skate and then assigned to a specific ice slot following each skate.

Registration
1. My daughter might not be able to play ringette this year due to unforseen circumstances/injury. What is your refund policy?
Our registration, participation and refunds policy can be found on page 15 of the SARA Bylaws and Policies.
2. How do I change my email address on my account so I can register my daughter?
Please email the registrar at registrar@stalbertringette.com to have your account settings updated.
3. Can players outside St. Albert register?
The SARA Ringette Association is governed by the policies and procedures of Ringette Alberta (RAB). The RAB residency policy provides all of the details about player’s home associations and the process for players wishing to register outside of their home associations.

4. Do we need to register for Come Try Goalie events?
There is no need to register. Your coach should be aware based on a notice from your division coordinator. All we need to understand is the number of goalies from each team and if they need equipment. There is also a request for 1-2 shooters per team.
Do we need to bring goalie equipment?
We will have someone available that can access goalie equipment and will help with sizing.
Can more than one player from a team attend?
Absolutely, we are encouraging 2 goalies per team and 1-2 shooters per team, but there is no maximum # of goalies, so long as we can get everyone in equipment.
